Reading educates you and helps you to unwind. But books
strewn about in your home can increase your clutter and thus stress.
♦Try
reading one book at a time. If you travel with it, keep it in your bag or
briefcase. If you read at home, mark the page and put it back on the bookshelf
when you reach a stopping point (or designate another spot such as the bed
bookcase headboard or in a basket near the tub).
♦Buy a
bookcase that goes vertical with at least four (preferably adjustable) shelves.
You'll be able to fit more in a single horizontal area of your home.
♦If you
don't need all the shelving just yet for books, put your other knick-knacks or
collectibles in between your books.
♦Arrange
tall awkward books (often nonfiction) on one shelf.
♦Cluster
fiction books into categories, such as keeping books by one author together.
♦Or keep
all mysteries together and all science fiction together. Or alphabetize books by
author.
♦Make one
clustered section mix and match books that you haven't read yet. Stack
paperbacks on their sides in columns.
♦One popular bookcase is the French Gardens Two-Door Bookcase.
Its beautiful but a main selling point is the doors because these will keep
dust from accumulating on your books (and knick knacks). That makes keeping your
book collection low maintenance. But since they're
see-through doors, you can still show off your book collection as part of your home
decor. And this bookcase has multi-shelves so there is plenty of storage space for your
books.
♦A Barrister Bookcase
also has doors, separate ones for each shelf. Notice that they open in the
opposite direction of the French Gardens bookcase above. Here is a barrister
bookcase:
