5 Car Organizers
That Keep You Organized
and Safe on the Road
By Karen

You've heard of organizing your home and organizing
your office. But what about organizing your car? If you carry drinks,
eyeglasses, maps, pads, tools, tissues, umbrellas, CDs, kids' toys and much
more in your car, you may need car organizers to stay organized and to stay
safe. Below are five types of car organizers and where to buy car organizers.
|
|
|
|
|
1) BACK-OF-THE-SEAT ORGANIZER: These are
usually fabric organizers with multiple pockets that hang over the back of the
front seats. So the organizer pockets are facing the rear passengers. Backseat
organizers usually attach by straps and a buckle around the front seat headrest.
BEST USAGE: Holding maps, pads/paper, pencils/pens, reading glasses,
compact umbrellas, even small toys. |
|
|
|
 |
|
2) TRUNK OR CARGO ORGANIZER: If you drive a
car (or even an SUV) and you're tired of that booming noise every time you turn
a sharp corner---the one that means everything in your trunk just scattered
everywhere---use trunk organizers. Cargo containers can be fabric or other soft
pliable but firm material. They often have compartments with adjustable
dividers. Sometimes they fold away compactly when not in usage.
BEST USAGE: Holding groceries, plants, car kits, portable air filters,
tools. |
|
3) INTERIOR CAR ORGANIZER: These are
portable organizers that fit on the passenger seat, between seats, on the dash
board, floor board etc. They can be firm fabric and come with or without lids.
They may have fasteners to keep them in place, versus sliding around while
you're driving, or they may not. Regardless, you definitely want one with a lot
of internal dividers, preferably adjustable dividers so your content fits snug.
You don't want drinks spilling! And lots of external pockets on the organizer
are a plus too.
BEST USAGE: Holding eyeglasses, water bottles, fountain/canned beverages,
snacks, CDs, cassette tapes--anything you want right next to you in the car
while you're driving. |
|
Trunk organizers may also sometimes
called Cargo Organizers or Cargo Bags. |
|
|
|
4) TRAVEL TRAY: Quit eating food on your
lap! And quit trying to write on paper balanced on your kneecap, thigh or the
steering wheel. Get a travel tray, also sometimes called a laptop tray, with a
firm enough surface for doing both. Some travel trays strap onto the back of the
front seat and flip down (airplane style) for back seat passenger use.
BEST USAGE: Holding laptops and lunches or as a writing surface. (Keep
young backseat passengers occupied with coloring books and travel games!) |
|
5) TRASH BAGS: Where's a trash bag when you
need one for that greasy food wrapper or wet, dirty paper towel that you just
used to clean your windows. It could be attached right to the backside of your
passenger seat or on the front floor. Stores sell several one to three gallon
trash receptacles designed just for auto usage.
BEST USAGE: Trash--dirty tissues, empty cans and food wrappers, scraps of
paper. |
|
Choose car organizers by traits such as...
►durability
►ease of use
►size (of your
auto space and containment needs)
►ease of cleaning
|
Car organizers not only keep the contents of your car organized and handy, they
make it easier for you to vacuum and clean the car. You'll be able to remove or
move the contents of your car in one quick movement. And you won't be digging
loose French fries, crayons and coins from underneath the seat and out of all
those hard-to-reach crevices.
And of course, when you use a trunk or cargo organizer, you'll no longer have to
insert half your body into the trunk to reach all those flyaway loose items.
And there is one further benefit to car organizers:
Safety.
It's a fact that loose items flying through an SUV or van, such as during even a
minor accident or quick braking stop, can kill or seriously injure the vehicle's
occupants. Those items not contained become flying missiles. Consider using
straps to secure all of your car organizers.
Also, the truth is that many drivers reach across to the glove compartment or
elsewhere to grab cassette tapes, sunglasses, even cellular phones in states
where it's legal to drive and talk on the phone. That's dangerous. Keep items
within arm's-reach so you don't take your eyes off the road for a second. And
don't get distracted by full drinks tipping over or sliding out of the spot
you've got them wedged in. Use a car organizer appropriate for the job.
Car organizers sound too good to be true, don't they? They're not. And they're
probably the least expensive addition you'll ever buy for your car (or as a gift
for your teenage driver in the family).
So what are you waiting for? Stock up on car organizers and get your car
organized today!
