♦ Store wheelbarrows and spreader carts upright on their
front-ends (or hang the
latter on a sturdy wall storage hook appropriate for its weight such as the
Wheelbarrow & Ladder Bracket by Racor®
sold by Organize.com). Upright carts
use less space and don't tempt you to lay things in them.
♦Fold and hang step ladders on wall mounted storage hooks.
Organize.com sells the
The Loop Hook - Ladder & Hose Rack by Schulte
for this purpose.
♦Cluster rakes, shovels, even weed eaters (sharp side down)
into an empty large garbage pail. Keep it handy by placing it in the front
corner of the garage. Trash cans with two wheels and a side handle allow you to
easily move the can or wheel it outside for your yard jobs.
♦Some
stores sell a garden
tool storage rack on wheels that holds up
to 20 large tools such as shovels and rakes, 17 small tools, a weed trimmer or
leaf blower and extension cords. It even lets you put the tools sharp
sides down, which is unique among garden tool racks you'll see for sale.
♦ Also
look for
garden tool racks that fit
neatly in a corner space. If you have room remaining after you stash your garden
tools, you also can use it for holding mops and brooms.
♦Large individual wall storage hooks will hold rolled up hoses
or extension power cords. Or roll your extension cord into a small round
coil and wrap it around the neck of a clothes hanger. Stores also sell
cord wraps for
this same purpose (and they usually cost just a dollar or so each).
♦Buy plastic or steel sectional "Garage
and Tool Organizers
(pictured left from Organize.com) or
holders" that you mount onto the wall horizontally and put the pole handles of
the tools into the grip slots vertically. This keeps the floor clear for
sweeping.
