Whether you use paper or plastic grocery bags, you'll need somewhere to store them at home (unless you bring them back to the store's recycle bin). Here's a good  plastic grocery bag dispenser and how it works for you.

Storing Grocery Bags in Dispensers

By Karen Porter, Editor

Will that be paper or plastic? (A few supermarkets still ask that.) Whichever choice of grocery bag (if you're given one) you make at the store will be what you have to work with when you get home. Nobody likes to throw away grocery bags. It seems wasteful. Some people take those plastic grocery bags back to the store, once empty, and put them in the store's recycle bin for just that.

But if you're like me, then you often reuse those plastic bags at home in various ways. For instance, my spouse will throw work snacks in them when he doesn't want to tote a lunch box. In fact, the small plastic grocery bags come in handy for toting or packing all kind of items from books that your giving to a friend to something to carry those goodies in that you made for your co-workers. I keep my plastic grocery bags in a white plastic dispenser that takes up just a tiny space on my kitchen wall. When you unpack groceries, you want to have the dispenser somewhere convenient. Mine hangs on the wall by just two screws and has been there for many years. It looks similar to the Grocery Bag Storage from Organize.com pictured on the left.

While my grocery bag storage dispenser is totally enclosed except for the dispenser portion on the bottom and the opening on the top, which is where you put your grocery bags in it, I like this one pictured here equally. The reason is that you can pull from the middle of the stack from this one, which has the open front, if you want a certain color bag or one that you know is a larger or smaller size for your needs. The white plastic material easily wipes clean.

While I keep my grocery bag storage dispenser on a kitchen wall, you also could attach the grocery bag dispenser to the inside of a cabinet door as pictured here. Again, just crumple the bags and push them through the top opening. You can fit probably 10 to 30 bags depending on their size and how compactly you squeeze them into the dispenser. Do discard any bags that have prominent holes or tears in them since these are not useful to you.

If you have brown paper grocery bags, consider doing what some people do--store them in the slim crevice between the side of your refrigerator and your kitchen cabinets. (Brown paper bags also make great hiding places and an inexpensive amusing toy for your cat to dodge in and out of.)
