So what's the solution to organizing your power chargers so that you can find
them when you need them?
♦One interesting solution is provided by stores like Stacks and Stacks. It's
called a
Power Station
or battery charging station. Essentially, it's a docking
station for charging up to three electronic items like your cellular phones. It
hides the cords and has dividers on top that slide to adjust to accommodate
three different items that you need to charge.
And an additional benefit is you only plug the battery
charging station into one wall socket. Think of it like a power strip where you
plug several items into one power strip that then plugs into the wall. The
difference here is you're plugging your chargers into it and setting your
electronic devices that need charging on top between the dividers. It's space
saving and neat, literally.
♦Another solution is to label your power chargers.
Stores sell cord labels or cord tags that attach to computer cables and cords and
DVD/VCR wires to help you organize and identify each cable or wire. Attach one
of these same type labels to
your power charger cord. Some of these labels are also ties that may enable you to wind and contain the
cord without it unraveling while in temporary storage.
If not, buy some
Velcro Straps
, sold
by Organize-Everything. Look in the electronics and computer accessory sections
of stores where you find the cables themselves for more options and the hardware
section of home improvement walk-in retailers.
♦If you don't want to use the labels with ties, use small plastic bags (like plastic
sandwich
bags). Roll each cord and put each battery charger in a separate bag. Label the outside of the
bag
with a sticky label. Just use a file folder or shipping label sold at
office supply stores and a permanent marker to write on the label what appliance
the enclosed power charger goes to. Or use your
labelmaker if you own one.
♦Whichever method you use (baggies or ties), plan to keep your chargers
for mobile items in the same place. This
could be a single drawer in your kitchen or even in your garage tool box (if you
have one of those large full-size tool boxes). No extra drawers? Buy a plastic container
or basket. It doesn't even need a lid. It could just be one
of those open
bins you reach into. Just tape a label onto the outside of it that says
"chargers".
Then store the bin on a closet shelf or on a shelf in the garage. Make sure that
you always put the bin
in the same place. Also keep it on a middle shelf easily reached by everyone in
the family. Your family probably
will be seeking to recharge household items often and so this bin needs to be
accessible and convenient.
♦If you have lots of power chargers, you may consider using
an
Over the Door Organizer, such as the kind you see made of vinyl with clear
pocket slots for shoes or craft supplies. Label the front of the slots. Put one
battery charger in each pocket.
