♦First,
gather all of your souvenirs into a pile (photos, high school annuals, trinkets,
charms, stuffed animals, etc.).
♦Divide
the stack into two piles. Pick up each item one by one. Every souvenir that you
pick up that elicits an immediate smile or pleasant memory goes into stack A. Every
item that doesn't do so, or worse elicits a bad memory, goes into stack B. This could be items whose
origin you can't remember or that came from events that weren't really that
pleasant in hindsight and maturity.
♦Naturally, stack
B goes into the garbage immediately. If
it's valuable, sell the item (and use it to buy something that you do enjoy).
♦Now
clear the clutter. Items that bring smiles should be accessible. Why wouldn't
you want to view an item on a regular basis that evokes a smile or happy
memories.
♦Frame
certificates and letters or put them into a scrapbook that goes on a bookshelf.
♦Hang
medals and pins on a small mounted cork board using push pins.
♦Mount
small three-dimensional items onto matting and frame and hang.
♦Ladder
shelves also are perfect for
displaying
-
framed photos
-
framed certificates
-
medals or pins hooked onto small
corkboards or clasped to matting inside frames
-
shadow boxes containing items
-
and other freestanding souvenirs.
