Organization Ideas
You
don't need to own a true pantry to use these ideas. Use them for food
storage in your ordinary kitchen cabinets too.
♦Cluster food categories in your kitchen pantry. Keep cans of vegetables together in rows
and columns on a shelf at eye level. You don't have to categorize or
alphabetize; just designate one section for only can vegetables.
♦Designate the next section in the pantry for cans of tomato sauce, tomato
paste and variations of canned tomatoes. Designate the next section for cans of
broth, canned soups and canned gravy. Put pet food cans in the next adjacent
section.
♦On the next higher kitchen pantry shelf, put the lighter stuff in boxes that
you use to complete a three-piece meal like boxes of scalloped potatoes and
macaroni. Also put small cans and jars such as mushrooms and tuna cans on this
shelf.
♦Dump noodles into clear
stackable containers that fit on kitchen pantry shelving.
♦Keep dessert mixes (Jell-O, pudding, cake) and raw baking
ingredients (boxes of artificial sweetener, containers of flour) together in
another section of the pantry or kitchen cabinet.
♦If your family can't remember your pantry organization
system and sections, use a labelmaker to make labels that says "vegetables," "pet food,"
etc., and attach the labels to the front edges of the pantry shelves.
♦Get other
kitchen pantry organization ideas by shopping at stores that offer "kitchen
organization products."
For instance, Organize.com sells a mesh packet sorter
that you can use to hold packets of seasoning, gravy and more. Buy several of
these sorters if you want to categorize similar type packet items into different
sections. Plus you can easily pull this sorter in and out of the kitchen pantry
if you need to take a closer look. This is a space-saving
solution for organizing those awkward food packets. You'll no longer be trying
to lean them against each other in some organized fashion between the boxes of
noodles and hamburger helper, only to have them slide down and create a messy
pile of packets.
Do you already have a walk-in pantry or walk-in kitchen
closet? Try a pantry shelf that attaches to the inside of the door.
This pantry shelf will hold cans of food,
boxes of food, spices and more in single, easily viewable rows. You also can use this
organizer in the garage or anywhere else on an inside door to hold nonfood
items.
