♦The best way to NOT lose your keys, rings and other items
that you
wear daily or carry daily in your pockets or even in your purse (especially if
you change out purses to match outfits) is to always put these items in the same
place. Where's that? You have several choices.
♦The "fancy" choice (and not
necessarily expensive) is to use a
Valet
. For instance, the valet pictured to
the left is from Organize.com. It has felt compartments for your rings,
that special pen with your initials on it, and your watch. Drop your car keys,
sunglasses and a few other daily items here too.
♦It's
probably best if each family member has their own valet--sharing one can get
confusing, especially when your spouse walks off with your favorite sunglasses
or keys by mistake.
♦Some
people keep their valet on their dresser in the bedroom. You should keep it
anywhere in your home where you're most like to use it. Where do you (or your
spouse) first empty your pockets? That's where you should put it near.
♦Valets come in many styles and price ranges. The one pictured
above averages near $55. But you can find others in higher or lower price
ranges, tastes and sizes.
♦If you're frugal or crafty, you may want to make do with a
nice tightly woven basket that matches your decor as a makeshift valet. You
could line it with a sheet of felt from the craft store to cushion rings and
watches. Many baskets can be quite expensive themselves depending on the quality
and design, such as bowl shaped baskets like African and Southwestern coil
designs. But these are ideal type baskets for emptying your pockets into and
look good with some home decor themes.
♦However, such a makeshift "valet" won't have compartments
to separate items from rubbing against and scratching each other. It all depends
on your needs, tastes and the amount of time you like to spend sorting items
when you empty your pockets. If you dump your pockets into a pile, then a basket
is ideal. If you take particular care with items, then a compartmentalized real
valet like the one pictured at the top of the page is perfect for you.
♦And if
you're thinking of your spouse, really think of your spouse (not necessarily
your home decor) because your choice has to be functional for him or her. If
it's not, your choice will look pretty but they won't use it.
